Embodiment Discourses in Early German Film Theory and Queer Melodrama

This workshop for graduate students will introduce discourses on embodiment and performance culture as outlined in early German film theory(in particular the work of Béla Balázs) and give participants the opportunity to discuss these in relation to the emergence of queer cinematic melodrama (with a focus on Richard Oswald's Anders als die Andern). Readings and discussion in English.
