Arjan Batth researches the St. Louis Hegelians

Under the mentorship of David Wellbery, Arjan Batth researched the St. Louis Hegelians, a foundational German-American philosophy group formed in the 1860s. In my capacity as a research assistant, I routinely navigated extensive databases and library archives, uncovering obscure historical materials including newspapers, diaries, and articles. Upon gathering these pertinent resources, I meticulously compiled comprehensive bibliographies to serve as an orienteering “compass” to Prof. Wellbery’s research. This opportunity allowed me to understand the history of German thought in the continental United States, allowing me to channel my intellectual passions while I was studying German.
