Conference: The Legacy of Moishe Postone: Teacher, Historian, Critical Theorist

The Legacy of Moishe Postone: Teacher, Historian, Critical Theorist is a two-day conference to be held on February 15-16th at the Franke Institute for the Humanities at the University of Chicago. It celebrates the historical, theoretical, and pedagogical work of the Thomas E. Donnelley Professor in Modern History and The College at the University of Chicago, Moishe Postone. We invite all those interested in Moishe’s work and influence to attend this conference and participate in discussion with thirty of Moishe’s former students from across the social sciences and humanities as they reflect upon the implications of his social theory for understanding history, modernity, and capitalism’s contemporary conjuncture.

The conference will run from roughly 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday with four 90-minute panels scheduled per day. Friday's panels will feature presentations concerned with history and legacy, whereas Saturday's panels will turn to the present moment and thoughts for the future. Details to follow on panel times, topics, presenters, and more.

This conference is generously co-sponsored by the Bernard Weissbourd Memorial Fund, the Chicago Center for Contemporary Theory, the Committee on Japanese Studies at the Center for East Asian Studies, the Franke Institute for the Humanities, the Graduate Council Fund, the International House Global Voices Program, the Joyce Z. and Jacob Greenberg Center for Jewish Studies, the Pozen Family Center for Human Rights, the Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts, and the Departments of Anthropology, Comparative Human Development, Germanic Studies, and History at the University of Chicago. Many thanks to Eric Triantafillou for creating the event poster and all other conference design work.
