Maeve Hooper

Director of the German Language Program; Senior Lecturer in Germanic Studies

Maeve Hooper coordinates all aspects of the German language program and teaches German at all levels of the program. She received her PhD in Germanic Studies from the University of Chicago in 2018. Her dissertation focused on techniques of narrative framing in nineteenth-century German-language novellas. She has worked closely with the Chicago Center for Teaching as a fellow and consultant, and with the Chicago Language Center developing proficiency assessments. In 2017, she designed and implemented a year-long intensive German language sequence, which continues to be offered annually in the Department. As director of the German language program, her responsibilities include curricular design and articulation, placement advising, and overseeing graduate student instructors and lecturers.
